David Guetta - Sexy Chick (Featuring Akon)

Buddhists's Hate Akon!!!

Singer Akon had to postpone his April concert in Sri Lanka after the island's nation's government said they planned to deny his visa. This announcement followed a violent incident on Monday were more than 200 protestors in the city of Colombo threw rocks at the offices of Akon's concert promoter's. Some were carrying signs that read "Stop Akon Now", they broke windows and hit cars parked near the buildings. Four employees were reportedly injured. The protestors were upset by Akon's viedo "sexy Chick" where it features woman in bathing suits dancing in front of a Buddha statue during a pool scene. The clip "triggered a lot of disappointment among Buddhists all over the world" a government spokesperson said in a statement. To bad for Akon because more than 60% of Sri Lanka's population is Buddhist. Protestors have previously resorted to violence when they felt disrespect had been shown toward the religion. Theres even a "We Hate Akon" page on Facebook which has more than 12,000 members. Now thats being a little harsh don't you think? "I was not aware that the statue was even on the set of the video until now" Akon said in a statement Wednesday. "I would never set out to offend or desecrate anyone's religion or religious beliefs." "I myself am a spiritual man, so I can understand why they are offended" the singer added. "But violence is never the answer and I am disheartened." Well Mr. Akon you should have done your research so things like this don't happen. I wonder how long it will take for the people to overcome this?

Erykah Badu - Window Seat

Erykah Badu promotes individualism

Erykah Badu was in Dallas' Dealey Plaza at the site of President John F. Kennedy's assassination to film her music video for her song "Window Seat." In her video Badu disrobes as she walks down a busy street midday and the funny part is the passersby aren't video extras but real life pedestrians who mainly ignore her except for a man who picks up some of her clothes and a woman who stares while holding the hand of a toddler boy. The scene was inspired by Matt & Kim's "Lessons Learned" video where the group undresses in Times Square. In her video by the time she reaches the spot where Kennedy was killed she is completely nude, you hear a gun shot, her head crocks back, and she falls to the ground and the words "Group Think" bleed from her head in blue ink. "Its a comfort zone that we create for ourselves, and i go outside of that comfort zone" says Badu to the Wall Street Journal. Badu does admit that she feels some anxiety for the children who were present and hopes they wont be traumatized. However she did talk to her three children and their fathers beforehand and received their support. "Window Seat' is a song about being liberated from I think mostly ourselves," Badu told the Wall Street Journal. "In the video I shed a lot of emotion, a lot of baggage by way of shedding clothing. I do this in the middle of a busy street which is totally probably something that is not accepted in society, thus the definition of not conforming to what society would expect you to do." I like how she is trying to prove a message but I do agree that those kids shouldn't have been subjected to seeing her naked body.

Whitney Houston @ O2 25/4/10

Whitney Houston @ O2 25/4/10

Crack Kills...Literally!!!

Poor Whitney Houston just doesn't have it like she use to back in the days with her voice. The singer admitted to having problems with her voice Sunday night during a performance at London's O2. In the middle of her song "I will always love you" Houston said " she just don't want to come, my soprano friend." It was the opening night for her "nothing but love" tour and her first performance at the venue since 1999 but it was not cutting it for fans. Houston who blamed the O2's air conditioning for the problem, reportedly sang just parts of some songs, appeared out of breath, and relied on her background singers to fill in. This is not like the old Whitney I'm use to hearing where she would hit every note and was on point. If her voice isn't cutting it for audiences honestly what does she have left? Its sure not her dancing, she was never known for being able to dance. It was noted that hundreds of the sold-out crowd walked out of the O2 in disappointment. I don't how you feel but I really don't want my expectation of Whitney to go down so i really think she should take break and rest her voice before coming on stage because with todays generation like Beyonce and Rihanna its hard to keep up with these younger acts and Ms. Houston you do not want to get run over.

First its the Beatles, then its Elvis, now its Michael Jackson who's gonna be next Jay Z?

Dondria - "You're the One" Official Music Video

You Tube and New Artists

Singer/Songwriter Dondria thought someone was pulling a fast one on her when she kept receiving emails on her Youtube and Myspace sites from someone calling himself Jermaine Dupri. So she ignored but the sender was persistent so she toke a chance and called. The next week the record label executive flew her and her mother/manger out to Atlanta for a meeting. Then the tables turned and it was Dondria contacting Dupri after several months of no news from him to see when she was going to come back. Now, three years after signing with Dupri's So So Def label, the Texas native is breathing in the sweer smell of success with her first single, "You're the one" written and produced by Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox. The track is currently No.18 on Billboard's Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop chart and No.30 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs. Dondria came to Dupri's attention with a built in fan base. She was filming herself at home singing along to other artists' songs and posting them on Youtube kind of like a at home karaoke session lol. To date her You Tube page counts more than 3 million page views.Beyond her voice, Dupri says what also caught his attention was the interaction between Dondria and her fans even before the first single came out. "In this social-media climate, she is setting the tone for what i'm doing now at So So Def" Dupri says. Personally I think its great that we can use this free network to promote our work and hope that someone big out there will see it and like it.

T.I. aint the King anymore!!!

T.I.'s March 5 visit to woodland middle school in stockbridge, Georgia has outraged parents. Many parent's said that if they knew the rapper and convicted felon was going to be at the school they would have kept their kids home that day. A complaint letter that was sent to the principal from one of the parents read " In the future, if T.I. or any other convicted felon needs to perform community service, ask for parental permission to allow our children to be exposed to these questionable individuals." The only thing the principal had to say about this whole situation was that " Mr.Harris has never been convicted of homicide," Oatts replied about the rapper whose birth name is Clifford Harris, Jr. T.I who also calls himself the King of the south doesn't really seem to have that king status anymore after spending a year in jail over gun charges. It really makes you question the system and his position in the music industry.

Ricky comes out the closet!!!

Ricky Martin came out of the closet last week by posting a comment on his website www.rickymartinmusic.com. This seems like a less direct way of making this official announcement (which shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone) than other gay celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres and Adam Lambert who sold their stories to magazines. Ricky Martin's action was probably his way of taking charge of managing his personal information rather than trying to dodge the paparazzi and letting the tabloids break his story. This will probably be the method more and more celebrities will use to reveal their bombshell announcements like marriages, divorces, affairs, or visits to rehab. In our age of instant data, if celebrities want to manage their careers they'll find more outlets to reach their fans instantly through websites, Twitter, Facebook, blogs, etc...
His announcement last week doesn't make a difference to his reputation as a musician, though. First of all, he hasn't released an English album in so many years, he's pretty much off the music scene here in America. Secondly, when he was at his most popular point in the U.S., people already assumed he was gay based on his dress, his dancing, his performances and other characteristics. Thirdly, in today's day and age when so many people are gay, it's not unusual for a musician or other celebrity to be gay. Their sexual orientation doesn't help them sell more albums and fans should pay less attention to it than they actually do.
